Why is sex with a stranger more enjoyable than masturbation?

Every single day, there's people (men AND women) who will pay someone else (who they don't know or care about) to have sex with them. Why? Why do they prefer doing that, especially when they know that they can just masturbate, which is free and has the same physical effects.

masturbation isnt as good as sex altho i agree it is pathetic to pay for it
